Adele has been practicing law for almost 20 years and has worked extensively in family law and general litigation. Adele has experience in court at the Supreme Court and Provincial Court levels, both conducting trials and in chambers applications.  She has experience dealing with child and spousal support cases, including cross-province and cross-border support applications, acting as counsel for the Minister in BC Benefits cases. Adele has also has experience in litigating complex parenting matters, including child maltreatment cases, emotional abuse cases, and parental alienation cases and has acted as Director’s counsel in child protection cases.

Adele has experience completing negotiated family law agreements, including using 4-way meetings and acting for parties in mediation to settle agreement terms.

Adele is also experienced in family law mediation and collaborative law.  Adele has participated in civil, family, and child protection mediations as counsel from the beginning of her career.  She completed her collaborative family law training in the Kootenays in 2000 and completed her training as a mediator in 2012 and then re-qualified in 2016.  She acts as a mediator for couples involved in family law disputes.  Adele is also part of the Lower Mainland Collaborative Association and practices collaborative family law.

Adele also acts for employers and employees in employment law cases, providing opinions on the amount and duration of severance, whether a termination is possible for cause, and other non-labour law related employment law issues.

Accomplishments

Adele received her bachelor of law degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1999, after receiving a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations in 1996 from the University of British Columbia. Adele was called to the BC Bar in 2000 after completing her articles with a full service law firm in Trail, BC. She worked in the West Kootenay from 1999 to 2004, and then returned to live in the Lower Mainland. After doing locum work in the East Kootenay, Adele joined McEachern Harris & Watkins in 2005, and has practiced law in Maple Ridge and the surrounding area since 2005. Adele is the supervising lawyer for the Maple Ridge Family Law Advocate Program which is run out of Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Community Services.  The Family Law Advocate Program provides free legal information and support about family law to the citizens of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.
